Prescriptions

Drugs you can't get over-the-counter
tl;drCoverage for prescriptions can lower the cost of medication. Some plans have a list of drugs that are covered, so if you aren't sure, check with your provider.

Coverage for prescription drugs can reduce the cost of medications you need.

There are several types of insurance plans that may cover prescriptions, including Medicare Part D and employer-sponsored insurance. All marketplace plans cover prescription drugs.

What is a formulary?

Insurance plans may cover prescription drugs through a “formulary” system, which means an approved list of prescriptions that are covered. Drugs on this list will be less expensive than those off of it. What you pay towards your prescriptions will count towards your deductible and out-of-pocket limit.

Not all insurance plans cover all prescription drugs, nor do all plans cover refills, so it's important to check with your provider to understand what is covered under your plan.
